Every day, I saw the shopping carts left on the sidewalks. Some people bring them to their community and abandoned the carts outside their gate. They probably have no cars to transport their groceries. It's not allowed really so; some business establishments used electronic systems so that the shopping carts cannot leave the perimeter of the parking lot. It's working good because I saw a family yesterday with loaded groceries trying to push the cart and it won't move. The cart wheels locked when they pass the magnetic strip.
In Aldi, they used the coin-operated locking mechanism using the quarter to encourage the customers to return the carts in the designated area and get their quarter back. 99% of the customers return the carts to save their quarter. It's really incredible huh? This is a good motivation that should be promoted in the US. I heard Europe is doing this so; if it's good for everybody why not follow as well.
